Max Gorman: Clarkson/Strikes
Anyone that has sent a complaint to ofcom over the whole Clarkson scenario is a fucking jobsworth. People are allowed to express their opinions openly through the media - that’s what its there for. If there wasn’t people that voiced their opinions then the country would be boring.
The only people…
seriously? clarkson can say what he wants because he’s fucking funny.
but public sector pensions being good? you have to be kidding me. for senior positions like head teachers, GPs, maybe. but for the majority, they are fucking awful. my mum works 70+ hours a week as a teacher in a really quite challenging school, despite being paid for 37.5. even if she only worked those hours, the pay is terrible. i earn more working behind a bar for crying out loud. as for pensions, well, when she retires, she will get less than £100 per week, which is about 40% lower than the official poverty line for pensioners. try telling anyone that is gold-plated.
and anyway, whatever the original pension situation, it is irrelevant to the crux of the strikes. no-one is asking for more money at all. the public sector is being told to work for three extra years, to pay more into their pensions only to get an even shitter pension than they had before. the strike didn’t just popped out of nowhere because teachers and nurses want more money, they happened because they were going to have money taken away from them.
No, I never said that the public sectors wages were GOOD. I did however say that they are better then a lot of private sector wages/pensions. And I feel that this is unfair as it has torn the country into a private/public divide which it shouldn’t. I feel that people earning the same amount of money should get the SAME pension. Surely that’d be justice?
I do agree that what the government are thinking of doing is utterly stupid and futile and to a larger point unfair however the strikers are jumping the gun completely and blowing their whistles over an idea that hasn’t been imposed yet and the scheme is still in the works.
I’m not taking a dig at the public sector at all. I just feel that their are people worse off then them and these are the people we should help first.
why should they wait until it is imposed? what would be the point in that?
another point is that, by law, no-one even had to tell anyone they were striking, but they did, because they didn’t want to fuck people over completely for the day. yet people still moan that, despite giving several weeks notice, people went on strike for one day. my mum is going to lose out on at least a day’s pay per month with this new stupid fucking pension scheme, and get less money when she retires, three years later than she’s supposed to do.
and people have the cheek to say that that’s fucking fair?! freedom of speech and expression shouldn’t be exclusive to those you happen to agree with.
It’s not being imposed. Their trying to bring a compromise to the situation.
I agree with you over the schools striking. One day of education isn’t a massive loss for a child’s education. However I think that hospital staff striking was a silly move as people were being advised to only call 999 if the call was “life threatening”. Now from the “emergency services” that is fucking pathetic. The next fact that people were being driven to hospitals in off duty police cars as the ambulance staff were HUGELY understaffed is appalling. Now you cant say that that is fair?
the whole point of a strike is to have an adverse impact. nurses are generally undervalued to the point where people only seem to notice them when they aren’t there, and that is a massive shame. it also highlights the fact that the public sector is generally comprised of professions that are integral to society. let’s be honest, no-one is going to suffer if there are less people serving in tesco or whatever; sure, people will have to queue longer, but it’s not going to be a matter of health, education, and safety, unlike the public sector. which is why they have every right to try and secure the pensions that they all signed up for in the first place.
Haha actually that’s true. I hadn’t looked at it like that before the tescos analogy. I guess there is no simple solution to the fiasco something in our society has to be cut somewhere along the line and whatever is going to be cut someone is going to be annoyed about it.

The only people that are moaning about it are the selfish and needy public sector workers who have and always will be getting a bigger pension then private sector workers, who are working in say, a local supermarket or shop. Yet you don’t get people striking because they cant afford the day off work. Surely these families should be prioritized over the public sector staff?
The main reason for people complaining over the comment are because they are scared that the comment may be spreading hatred over the strikers. However surely the strikers are spreading their hatred of David Cameron and Nick Clegg with their “down with the coalition” signs and the whole fucking act of striking!
Anyway…
errrr… Merry Christmas.
R.I.P Thursday one of the best bands I’ve had the honor of seeing live. Will never forget this band.
